Frequently Asked Questions
We get it, you've got questions about how the program works. We've got answers.
No. The ministry is called Beehive for several reasons: First, on a practical and symbolic level, we seek to inspire members of the church and the church itself to function like bees working for the hive. Second, the name was derived from a dream recorded in the book Welfare Ministry, p. 112.2, in which Ellen White saw the busy activity of the Remnant church in San Francisco and Oakland. The dream was fulfilled in the early 1900s. Ellen White went to the Bay area and saw many “lines of effort” where the church was functioning beyond the walls of the church. It had begun to integrate evangelism into the fabric of the city with restaurants, reading rooms, treatment facilities, and many other health-related efforts. The church had truly become a “Beehive”. It is from this that we base our name.
Our primary goal is to be more like Jesus and inspire others to make this their life’s mission as well, spreading the love of the Father and working as Christ did. Therefore, our goal is to see God’s people working consistently, harmoniously and effectively like Christ to win souls for the kingdom, while developing a character like His in the process. It is also our goal to see and hasten the revival and expansion of the dream Ellen White had of the Beehives in the Bay area to every city of the world - to make every church a Beehive, CHATting for Jesus.
CHAT is the Beehive Ministry’s health evangelism arm. It is the means by which we train and equip people to do city mission work, sharing the gospel through tangible acts of benevolence.
The training is called CHAT (Community Health Advocate Training) because speaking is the most common form of communication. We believe that if you can talk, you can CHAT and be an advocate for the health of your community. Jesus gave the commission to go and make disciples, “teaching them”. Every member of the church is to be an instrument through which God communicates His love. People performing acts of kindness, sharing health and healing with the world are demonstrations of God’s benevolent character manifested in His people, His church. We are His, therefore we CHAT.
Yes. CHAT is medical missionary work in the most practical sense. “Christ's method alone will give true success in reaching the people. The Saviour mingled with men as one who desired their good.” (Ministry of Healing, p. 143.2) The work Jesus did was practical and it was highly social as He mingled. CHAT views medical missionary work in the light of Christ’s work as He "went about doing good,” (Acts 10:38), mingling with men. All can do good for the benefit of mankind. CHAT emphasizes the power of mingling as the key entry point to effective medical missionary work. Often, it begins with a conversation, words of comfort and encouragement. CHAT sees the health work as more than just physical healing, but also includes mental, spiritual, and especially the primary point of access, social.
Yes. The principles of these modalities are taught both during the online training and the in-class practicums that are offered after churches have completed the online portion. It should be noted that the emphasis is placed on the “principles” of these modalities, and is taught, not in the exhaustive way many lengthier programs offer, but rather a targeted understanding is offered for the purpose of conducting health talks and seminars. Students receive a basic and working knowledge that will allow them to CHAT or share the information during workshops, seminars or health coaching scenarios.
Yes. For those who have already trained as medical missionaries or in the healthcare profession, the CHAT training is perfect! We have found that our previously trained members, whether lay or professional, all benefited from the practical, Christ-centered approach, as well as our unique emphasis on social engagement with the community, mingling like Christ. In addition, those with extensive health training, appreciate the added benefit of being organized into teams for maximum success. Rather than working in silos or as individual atoms, CHAT organizes church members and churches into teams of health advocates with specific roles to thoroughly engage with the communities they serve. These teams then become a part of a national network of health advocates drawing inspiration, encouragement and experiences from each other to constantly improve ministry effectiveness.
Absolutely. Those who already have the gift of gab, CHAT trains you to speak and teach using the method of Christ. There has never been nor ever will be a better teacher than Jesus. We believe that we can come close, but only by using the techniques and strategies He employed in His messages. Jesus used physical realities to help His listeners understand deeper, less understood spiritual truths. When even the best of speakers use Christ’s methods, he develops his gifts in ways never imagined. The gifted speaker/lecturer learns the very nuances from the Master Teacher and begins to CHAT like Jesus.
Yes. All students receive a certificate at the completion of the training.
The certificate allows you to labor as a Community Health Advocate Trainer. With this distinction, you are able to conduct health seminars using all of the CHAT branded materials, which have been professionally produced, including banners, books, marketing material and over 21 presentations. Only certified members can use these materials and resources.
No. It is not the intent of the CHAT program to be recognized by man. It is God ordained and God sanctioned. Therefore, we promote this program and training as a deeply spiritual, life-changing experience which should be done solely because of a supreme love for God and an outward, tangible expression of that love towards our community, our neighbors, our fellow man.
While there are medical doctors who offer sound, scientific lectures within the training, and some medical trainees have received reimbursements, we cannot guarantee that, nor do we encourage that as an objective for taking the course. We leave this to the discretion of the CHAT trainee.
